World's Largest Roof-top Solar Power Generation System (approximately 22MW) Installed at Tire Plant ~Reduction of CO2 emissions through the use of renewable energy and high-efficiency systems
20/02/2023News
Kansai Energy Solutions (Thailand) Co.,Ltd. (K-EST) will install the world's largest*1 Roof-top Solar Power generation system and Gas Cogeneration System at Sumitomo Rubber (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (Sumitomo Rubber (Thai Factory)), a tire manufacturing and sales subsidiary of Sumitomo Rubber Industries,Ltd., and supply the energy such as electricity and steam. Also, The Kansai Electric Power co.,inc.(KEPCO), parent company of K-EST, have signed an agreement to provide Sumitomo Rubber (Thai Factory)with renewable energy value today. .
rn
rn In thisproject, K-EST will install roof-top photovoltaic panels (output: approximately 22 MW from around 40,000 panels) and gas cogeneration systems (6.6 MW x 2 sets) at Sumitomo Rubber (Thai Factory) plant in Rayong province, Thailand by using the " Financing Program for the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) Model Projects in FY2022 ※2" provided by the Ministry of Environment, Japan. All of generated electricity and steam will be supplied as a substitute for the energy currently used at the plant. As a result of this project, SRT expect to reduce their annual CO2 emissions by approximately 38,000 tons.
rn
rn The electric energy used at this plant will be carbon neutrality through I-REC*3 which will be procured and provided KEPCO. The I-REC will be procured from a biomass power plant whose main raw material is waste materials such as branches and roots remaining after lumbering rubber trees in Thailand and this action contributes to Sustainable Natural Rubber*4 activities of Sumitomo Rubber (Thai Factory).
